1812!: War on the Great Lakes Frontier Simulate the War of 1812 on the Great Lakes.

Sadly, compass does have some good games (The Lamps are Going Out is one of my all time favorites), but they are in the β€œquantity not quality” mode of cranking stuff out.
If you want a good looking Compass game check this one: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/34...

The fact it’s also so simple rule wise is quite the achievement of game design! Insanely playable and a great canvas that gives space for all sorts of homebrew!

Then in follow up game this morning, started with a 5 run first inning with starting pitcher rolling an 8 on d100 + d4 for a RBI single!!! Won game 2 of series 8-0 with 16 hits! Fantastically simple baseball game!!!

Really digging Deadball (2E). Baseball with dice!!! I’m playing as 3rd place team making a pennant run in last 9 games of season, playing second place team. Was down 6-1 in top 7 and had huge rally to tie and win in 11.

It’s a neat system. Old school wargame with a neat card system for activation. Got first game in last week pre-BGF!!!!

There are two major groups, 1889 is more of the stock manipulation variety

Well hold off on the initiation ritual for the cult for a couple of games. Just keep in mind when you join the cult you get a cool hat! 😁 (forgot mine for the conβ€¦πŸ˜’)

First game of Deadball. Playing modern era 9 game Circuit from the rulebook to get bearings. A pitching duel but my Charlottesville flycatchers lost 2-1 to an 8 inning 3 run gem pitched by Broad Street’s Pam Casey!

Getting ready to try Deadball 2E. Neat little pencil and paper baseball simulation using polyhedral dice! Looks great!

Still slowly working through the main scenario of All Are Brothers. Finished turn 7 and Austrians starting to get moving snd have reinforcements stepping up. At the point though that corp morale might play a factor soon. Here is last couple turns:

All Are Brothers Solferino end of turn 2, Austrians can’t get moving except Benedek VIII Corps on the right flank. Sardinians need to get some help on that flank bad.

And you drop morale not just by units failing brake tests, but rallying to remove shaken/disrupted markers drains the track to represent officers losing control after repeated tries to keep the unit together

Instead of one of the scenarios that were only part of the battle I heard @drcrossbows.bsky.social in my head saying, it’s the full battle or nothing else, not this partial stuff! Lol

Yes. It is a bit unique. I’m super interested to see how Morale plays out. A blind Sword with TLNB style corps morale. If it hits zero bad things:

Yeah some can be hard to parse the strategy. When you play more. You’ll see most victory is controlling key areas. To get those areas you need to concentrate force before opponent can. Reading terrain for how fast to move, and give you combat advantage is usually the key.

It will be on my list. I have that and CC:E and friend has CC:P and neither of us have played and we are taking week off for BGF and having some pre-con Combat Commander to warm up!

I have the last week of April slated to play like 2 days of combat commander FINALLY. A system I’ve needed to try for a long while

Yes. I had similar thoughts. Perhaps it’s a second edition (or third I guess) of By Iron and Blood? Hermann has a similar fascination for late 19th century as I do.

The issue if it just walked through turns for a lot of games in the way you play it, and tried to explain all the edge cases it would be like a 75 page book.

In fact Skies Above Britain does just this, and I think it’s like 68 pages. If you haven’t tried that you should. Fantastic narrative!!!
