Would it be cheaper to scrap it and replace it with tidal? It would certainly be quicker

Once every 20 years or so, the director-general of the BBC is forced to resign for being insufficiently rightwing. Alastair Milne in 1987. Greg Dyke in 2004. Tim Davie in 2025. The great irony is that the BBC was in all cases profoundly biased towards established power. But just not biased enough …

A wealth tax is tax on what you own, not what you earn. You collect the tax and put it on the general 'pot' and use it for health, education, social care, defense, childcare, whatever. You qualify by the value of what you own. Half a billion would be a good starting point.

Watch the news. During the hot spring last year there were scores of wildfires in and near London.

Huge amounts of wealth sits with a tiny minority who live off those investments. By taking some of that via a wealth tax and redistributing that to those in most need will not just help the recipients, it will also stimulate the economy because the money will be spent, not saved.

I wish we could ignore Bill Gates on the climate crisis. But he’s a billionaire, so we can’t | George Monbiot Money talks – and his essay denouncing β€˜near-term emissions goals’ at Cop30 mostly argues the case for letting the ultra-rich off the hook

We should vote only for those who promise to make billionaires history.
We need a great levelling, through tax and redistribution.

I agree. A return to the international rule of law and consequences for violation would be really good, but seems a long way away at the moment.

If someone is held without charge then that is kidnapping and that person is a hostage. Shouldn't we be having move of a conversation about freeing those hostages and 'bringing them home'

He's actually doing virtually nothing.

And often nasty. That's why we need governments to tax them until they squeal. Then tax them some more.

Boris Johnson trying to undermine BBC leadership, insiders fear after leak Director general under pressure after release of memo criticising reporting on Trump, trans rights and Gaza

The government has STILL not cleared out the highly partisan decision-makers imposed on the BBC by the Tories. Starmer and co are so amazingly spineless and feeble.

Absurd claim that White-tailed Eagles β€˜snatched’ five Shetland ponies leads to inevitable call to β€˜shoot eagles’ The absurd claim that White-tailed Eagles had β€˜snatched’ five Shetland pony foals on South Uist hit the headlines at the end of August. Don't forget! Eagles eat Shetland Ponies too!!!

After 3 days of tree planting this week, the 'easy' activity today was to plant some spagnum moss plants in a bit of recovering blanket bog. Who ya gonna call? Bog Blockers!
it was a bit claggy and a bit cold but the company was good and the big looks great!

Dear GOD if you want to save money in the asylum system

1. LET ASYLUM SEEKERS WORK

2. FAST TRACK STATUS FOR EVERYONE FROM CLEARLY UNDAFE COUNTRIES like Sudan, Syria, etc

3. Run an asylum accommodation system that is NOT FOR PROFIT #r4today

The tree mix. Pedants will notice that I missed Guelder rose off the list. There were 30 of those per plot too. Impressed with my Latin? The trees are labeled in Latin by the supplier so it helps us ID which stick is which at this time of the year!
