Lives and works in Los Angeles Teaching a Cow How to Draw 2020 Cedar wood When conceptual artist Analia Saban first visited the Clark, she was struck by the cows who pastured in its meadows. Could the fence that contained the animals also entertain, or even educate them? Saban reinterpreted the existing split rail fence to illustrate different principles of artistic composition, such as the rule of thirds and golden ratio- which are said to produce pleasing pictures-as well as two- and three point linear perspective. This 620-foot-long drawing in space is both a tongue-i cheek gesture, implicating a new, nontraditional audience outside the museum's walls, as well as a device that frames new views on the landscape for its human visitors. The fence is an homage to Saban's mentor, the late John Baldessari (1931-2020), and his 1972 video Teaching a Plant the Alphabet, in which the artist offered an English lesson to a potted banana plant. Back out and swing to the left, so you can pull forward toward the building? Then you could back into the original parking spot to turn the car around and drive out. Alternatively, back up slightly diagonally and then keep turning a little at a time to make it like a 20 point turn.
