The image in Portuguese shows the home page of the published paper, containing the following summary of the research: “Data imbalance represents a significant challenge in the analysis and classification of datasets, particularly when applying subsampling techniques. One-sided selection (OSS) is a commonly used approach; however, its effectiveness can be limited due to the inefficient removal of redundant examples from the majority class. This paper proposes an alternative solution, called Subsampling Supported by Artificial Immune Systems (SSAIS), which takes advantage of the pattern detection principles of artificial immune networks to enable more informed selection in OSS. Dealing with unbalanced data remains an ongoing challenge in the health sector, which is why this document uses a dataset related to diabetes management to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.”

Science of Chess: What happens in the brain when we see the best move? EEG is good for measuring the timing of neural events, but can it reveal what happens when insight hits?

In other writing-related updates, I've got a new #Chess and #Neuroscience blog post up over at lichess. In this one, I talk about an ERP study designed to look for a response that reflects the moment of "getting" a chess puzzle. lichess.org/@/NDpatzer/b...

Elon Musk’s Neuralink is "bad science fiction," brain science pioneer says In an interview, a leading pioneer in the field of brain-computer interfaces criticized Neuralink's recent forays in the field of neuroscience.

“Neuralink hasn’t done anything that I consider innovative at all,” Nicolelis says. #neuroscience #neuroskyence
