Birder, based in DEVON, mainly around the Exe estuary, but often found venturing further afield.

07.10.2025 15:30 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Sparrowhawk just swooped into the garden and caught a House Sparrow. It would have eaten it there and then save for an inquisitive Herring Gull scaring it off clutching the sparrow.
14.07.2025 10:32 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Aylesbere this am. Looking at a beautiful male Yellowhammer when two Dartford Warblers turned up close by, in the same bush. A Willow Warbler and male Stonechat calling nearby. Plenty of Linnets there too.

Two hours of pre-work dawn birding & three of the loveliest Spring migrants appeared.

The EU Commission just gave the green light for EU countries to resume the hunt for European Turtle-doves, ending a 3-year pause.
This is reckless, short-sighted and will take this bird back to the brink.
