For 2026 I’m going to keep up my revived movie habit and try to revive something else that used to bring me joy that I don’t do much of anymore: read books. I’m not going to make a goal, but I read four in 2025 and I’d like to maintain that baseline at the very least. Heading out now for movie 35.

Last January I didn’t want to do a self-improvement resolution. I decided to do something that would bring me joy: see as many movies in the theater as possible. I used to do it all the time but had gotten out of the habit. From a goal of 12, I’ve already seen 34 and I’m so happy I got back into it.

I watched The Anderson Tapes (Lumet, 1971). It has an out gay jewel thief character and despite truly rancid homophobia it was interesting to think about in a Celluloid Closet kind of way. Electronic surveillance soundtrack by Quincy Jones. ⭐️⭐️/5
