30 years ago today, I went to a concert that meant a lot to me.

Here's an interview I did with my mom to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

30 years ago today, Thrush Hermit took to the stage at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto and played an entire set of Steve Miller Band covers.

Never forget.

In Los Angeles, we saw two recessions we lived through COVID, so we always pride ourselves on being able to maneuver,” Javiar Anaya of Pinches Tacos said. It’s also less fun and illuminating to try to talk about Japanese promotions on platforms when most of the domestic fans aren’t around. I miss their insights and photos and cross-cultural exchanges.

Ymmv, but I might talk about TJPW and DDT more if fans of another unnamed promotion weren’t always so eager to show up out of nowhere and treat them like feeder systems for their promotions that are only worth using for parts. It’s annoying and not worth the energy.

But I'm also really struggling to get more freelance work and writing appears to be the one job I can do that suits my access needs as an autistic person, so I guess I should try.

I think I have done a lot of good work in the past 25 years (and some real stinkers, too, but who hasn't?) and I know a number of people have appreciated some parts of it, but I've never really managed to build an audience who wants all of it, because it's a bit all over the place.

You start to wonder why their boss, Mr. Waverly, tolerates this kind of nonsense. But then his evil ex just waltzes into UNCLE's top secret headquarters one day so they can chew a bunch of scenery together and it all makes sense.

Three more comments. One: "Here's Napoleon hiding behind a cushion. Good job, UNCLE's top spy" accompanied by a screen cap of that happening. It's the way children hide once they've graduated from covering their eyes. Two: "Illya just exchanged part of a missile for 'all of Monsieur Solo.'" Three: "Illya almost shot Napoleon in the face with acid because they were fucking around. Spy love is weird."

Anyway, the movie got a lot of praise for its cheeky homoeroticism from people who had never seen the show. The show is exponentially more homoerotic, though.

And part of the show's charm is that they are terrible at their jobs when you really start paying attention.

A facebook post on this day 10 years ago. The original post is me saying 'I no longer care if the Man From UNCLE movie is good, just so long as it's homoerotic." A follow up comment includes a photo of the bad and not actually homoerotic enough movie Napoleon and Illya sharing a moped in a mildly homoerotic way. My comment says "I feel good about my odds." I am wrong.

Four more comments from me to my own facebook post. The first one features real Napoleon and Illya sharing a look. I have written "Totally banging." Second comment: "People have written slash BASED ON THE TRAILER." Third Comment: "In the ep I'm watching now, Napoleon just told Illya's kidnapper that 'you have something that belongs to me.'" The fourth comment is just a screen cap of Sally Draper, uh, discovering Illya Kuryakin in Mad Men

Five more comments from me to my own post! One: Its time for the bow wow affair! First Illya-centric episode! Two: "Napoleon, disguised as a police officer, just implied that he's taking Illya home to rough him up." this is accompanied by a screen cap of the boys doing homoerotic things again. Three: 'Think piece What Sally Draper Got Right About Illya Kuryakin." Four: "Alternative think piece: Man From UNCLE was HoYay Before It Was Cool" Five: "Illya and Napoleon are UNCLE's best spies, and they get kidnapped in every other episode. What the hell did the less awesome spies do?"

Three more comments! One: "Hey let me take my belt off while you sit right there, platonic spy partner" accompanied by a screen cap of exactly that happening. Two: Another screen cap where both Illya and Napoleon seem to be looking at Illya's crotch Three: "I'm pretty sure that Illya made a BDSM joke"

This 10 year old facebook post and all of the followup comments are a pretty good insight into what it looks like when an autistic person rediscovers an old special interest in real time. (And how odd in a good way the original Man From UNCLE show is once you start paying attention.)
