Alright, stopping five minutes short of the hour, *but* I have overhauled the introduction of this application so it looks a bit more bouncy, and that's about all the brain I think I have spare before I start to worry about other things. Progress.

The problem with this kind of work is that it is basically staring into thin air until the Right Words Take Shape, and that feels like such a luxury at this very moment. But there is a deadline, so wool-gathering for intellectual pleasure and profit it is.

(A lovely colleague has given me some feedback on how to make it bounce more, which does involve going 'you are basically saying this is the Roman equivalent of the Godfather' and I am not quite sure how you turn that into grant application language but it is gratifying.)

Right. I have done a bunch of life adminitrivia that just hasn't had space to happen, and now I am going to give myself an hour on this grant application, and then I will do teaching prep. All I have to to do is sound keen and enthusiastic and I am sure I knew how to do that once.

I just saw someone use the abbreviation “AI;DR” and I’ll be laughing for a while.

For a time of year that is supposed to mark the return of a highly structured and clearly delimited routine, there is a surprising absence of highly structured and clearly delimited routine.

If you were asking about the year seven context, I think we were set something like 'write a short biography of an important person of faith', so I suspect my teacher got a lot about Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi, that sort of thing. Possibly the Pope.

It's a reflection for this week's newsletter. Two of the week's readings mention leprosy, because of course they do, and memory lane came calling.

I still remember with fondness the look of complete incomprehension on the face of my RE teacher, who I am willing to bet had not had a keen year seven present her with a project on leprosy before.

I'm not saying that the start of term is a bit intense, but I have used my 'agitated venomous snakes' e-mail category tab more in the last fortnight than I have in the last year.

Very much hearing 'phew, the start of term, eh?' vibes.

Doing some admin work for the Musonius Rufus volume, and do you know, I am so very proud of the range of scholars that we've got in this volume. It was really hard work to get it here but I'm so glad that we put the effort in.

This is what I was trying to say yesterday and didn't quite get right.

I *think* I have worked out how to hack the website to get it to show me the places I need to see... Much Faff involved.
