Thanks for your comment ๐Ÿ˜Š Yep, can be a little difficult to get your head around, especially if you donโ€™t have visuals of the force-time curve

RFD vs Strength
I thought it was time to revisit this topic after yesterdayโ€™s publication.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸผWhat these performance qualities are
๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸผHow they differ
๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸผHow to think about focussing rehab/training

The paper is concerned with the review of RFD / RTD (rate of force development / rate of torque development), which describes the gradient of the force-time curve i.e. how quickly muscle force can be produced, NOT the max for produces, which is muscle strength.

This is disappointing ๐Ÿคจ

RFD / RTD is not muscle strength. They are separate qualities of muscle performance

Had an absolute blast of a day with these awesome physios filming hip strength testing using #dynamometry, exploring whatโ€™s possible, repeatable & can be standardised in clinic just using a plinth.

Some tension & compression dynamometer options.

All videos feature in my course

Iโ€™m often asked which dynamometer to buy & about testing in rehab.
1st response -what data do you want to obtain?
2nd- why do you want it?

Do you want to use data in decision making, or as a motivational aid?

Answer this THEN we can consider which tool ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

A muscleโ€™s contractile history influences its subsequent performance.

Doesnโ€™t always have to be negative. We can use potentiating mechanisms in clinical practice to overcome inhibition, or augment RFD & Power-based rehab๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

These types of statements, in published papers really really annoy me ๐Ÿ˜ก

Reader led to believe that break tests are associated with โฌ†๏ธ risks of injuries & these papers evidence it

They donโ€™t !

โ€˜Throw awayโ€™ statements like this can have a profound impact. Authors & reviewers please do better
