I thought it was time to revisit this topic after yesterdayโs publication.
๐๐ผWhat these performance qualities are
๐๐ผHow they differ
๐๐ผHow to think about focussing rehab/training

Please can we do better in peer-reviewed publications ๐๐ป
3/
The paper is concerned with the review of RFD / RTD (rate of force development / rate of torque development), which describes the gradient of the force-time curve i.e. how quickly muscle force can be produced, NOT the max for produces, which is muscle strength.
2/
This is disappointing ๐คจ
RFD / RTD is not muscle strength. They are separate qualities of muscle performance

Had an absolute blast of a day with these awesome physios filming hip strength testing using #dynamometry, exploring whatโs possible, repeatable & can be standardised in clinic just using a plinth.
Some tension & compression dynamometer options.
All videos feature in my course

YES ๐๐ป
Iโm often asked which dynamometer to buy & about testing in rehab.
1st response -what data do you want to obtain?
2nd- why do you want it?
Do you want to use data in decision making, or as a motivational aid?
Answer this THEN we can consider which tool ๐๐ป
A muscleโs contractile history influences its subsequent performance.
Doesnโt always have to be negative. We can use potentiating mechanisms in clinical practice to overcome inhibition, or augment RFD & Power-based rehab๐๐ป

These types of statements, in published papers really really annoy me ๐ก
Reader led to believe that break tests are associated with โฌ๏ธ risks of injuries & these papers evidence it
They donโt !
โThrow awayโ statements like this can have a profound impact. Authors & reviewers please do better

Not fast enough for measurement of RFD (rate of force development)
