📊 Key findings:

1️⃣ Kidney trade networks shift over time – half of the top 10 countries per role (seller, buyer, surgery) change within a decade.

2️⃣ Developing countries are more often seller origins – #India, #Pakistan, #China, #Nepal, #Bangladesh, #Nigeria, #Russia, #Ukraine, #Kazakhstan.

🤖 AI-powered approach achieved high accuracy:

• BERT filtered relevant articles with 88.75% accuracy.

• Llama3.3-70B with chain-of-thought prompting identified roles with up to 95.93% accuracy.

💻 Using #LLM (Meta’s Llama 3.3), #MachineLearning (#BERT), and #RAG, we analyzed ~50,000 news articles spanning 23 years to build a global geospatial database of #illicit #kidney #trade and related financial transactions.

Sustainable progress in the fight against corruption requires deeper reforms: an independent judiciary, a free and professional media, a strong NGO sector and vibrant civil society, greater government transparency, and, above all, meaningful political reforms.

A few months ago, a Kz journalist 🇰🇿 asked me which #government agencies could be abolished. I mentioned the #Anti-Corruption Agency first, as its work seemed politicized, unaccountable & raised concerns about its own integrity.

Today, the President of #Kazakhstan officially abolished this Agency.
