That's wild! I know I wasn't made aware of GameFAQs until I was a bit older when I started printing cheat codes to put into a binder haha

22.12.2024 12:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Haha for sure, I know that if I was getting desperate on a difficult Pokemon I would mash ALL the buttons.
21.12.2024 23:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0๐ฏ - it seems the craft has been lost over the generations. But good to see you found success with Down-B, it's a classic.
21.12.2024 22:38 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Let me know if there were any other methods you used when you were younger.
21.12.2024 22:28 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0#5 A Combination of the Above
My fifth and final tactic was combining the above techniques for added chances in case the previously attempted technique failed.
Good luck out there, Trainers.
#4 B-A Rolling Technique
This one is a little more tricky for the timings. But basically you roll your thumb across the B and A buttons to match the timings of the Pokeball wobbling back and forth. It helps ensure the Pokeball lid stays closed!
#3 The "I Don't Care"
I have legitimate memories of pulling this move thinking it helped somehow. Basically you throw the ball and then lower your Gameboy and don't look at the screen! Listen out for the sounds the Pokeball makes. Bonus points for mentally suggesting you "don't care what happens".
#2 Down and B
This was the method being spread across the school grounds. Complete word of mouth, no internet strategy guides existed. Press and hold D-Pad Down + B during the catch attempt for a "guaranteed catch" unless you got the timing wrong... Obviously.
#1 B-Button Basher
Or BBB... for short. We all know the 'b' on the button stands for "bcatch" so mash that button as many times as possible while the ball flies through the air but STOP mashing as soon as the ball closes, before it wobbles.
As an adult and a game developer, I ~know~ that pressing buttons doesn't increase your chances of catching a #Pokรฉmon - but try telling that to a 9-year-old me playing his copy of Pokemon Gold on his Gameboy.
Here are my Top 5 goto tactics for catching Pokemon ๐งต
Thank you! ๐ It's been a wild ride.
05.12.2024 08:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Had a stress dream that I would wake up to negative player reception to our game but I'm happy to report it was only a dream.
The reception to Shattered has been positive, and I'm incredibly proud of what our team achieved with Mixed Reality.

15.11.2024 12:20 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm at THAT level of petty that I only send "Thanks!" to opponents who concede in #PokemonTCGPocket ๐
15.11.2024 05:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Looking at the two comparisons, I'd say the 'After' is certainly an improvement. Not sure what feedback you received but the parts I noticed.
- Fading buttons you can't click โ
- Truncate the party size header to only a number โ
- header of the panel and CTA button use interlinking terminology โ
I do love the sound of dice rolling but yeah it would be good to find a track that blends well with those clickity clacks of the dice and doesn't over power it.
15.11.2024 01:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Frowns would only happen if you tried to ship your game using those tracks. Would be no harm in using those tracks as audio reference or strictly placeholder content for internal builds to feel it out. ๐๐
But if you plan on sharing dev videos to bsky using those tracks people will notice negatively
Thanks! Yeah it's been an idea I've been sitting on for a while. Glad I finally got it done.

14.11.2024 12:52 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm gonna need to buy a few more of these display shelves though... Reckon I'll break the Sea of Thieves one up into the major updates I worked on as they felt like their own game releases.
One of Vaults of the Ancients, Legends of the Sea and Fort of the Damned me thinks.
A series of 12 Gameboy cartridges of varying colour, sitting on a tiered acrylic shelf, each with a custom-made label depicting video games that Aaron has helped develop. Games like Sea of Thieves, TY the Tasmanian Tiger HD, Dumb Ways to Survive and Love Letter for the Playdate.
A recent bit of Arts and Crafts ๐งถ, I've turned most of my career #gamedev portfolio into fake #Gameboy carts. I wanted something physical and compact in my studio office to remind me of all the games I've contributed to and my personal growth in the games industry. ๐ซถ๐ค๐ #portfolio

Okay now for some actual achievements in #gamedev - over the first year and a bit of working for @rareltd.bsky.social;
- rapidly learned Unreal Engine 4 (all my course work was Unity focused)
- helped ship the Anniversary edition of the game, with my contributions being within Tall Tales.

This internship required me to pack up my life in Australia and move across the globe to the UK. Another life altering experience, I gotta say... Loved every moment.
Too many photos to share here but have the day I bought a flat cap and a pumpkin carving I made later that year.
