Opinion | Trump Has No Mandate to Destroy America

my latest is expanding on the observation that your view of the politics of opposition to the administration depend largely on your view of the election (gift link)

Elizabeth Warren on people who say Dems needs to tone down their rhetoric: "Oh, please. Why don't you start with the president of the United States? And every ugly meme he's posted and every ugly word."

He has kept among us in times of peace Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures. He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power. He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution & unacknowledged by our laws.

The amount of people who genuinely think this level of corruption is normal but Trump is just honest about it is insane.

Especially when youโ€™re complaining about one person and making a generalization about every other person whoโ€™s understandably concerned

Youโ€™re telling me that people are more concerned by a major network television show hosted by a well known star getting canceled seemingly to make POTUS happy than a talented yet less well known news presenter being replaced? I get the point youโ€™re trying to make but the comparison is disingenuous

I personally really liked SNW season 2 because it really captured the spirit of Star Trek while still maintaining a good show. TOS and 90s Star Trek had a ton of โ€œsillyโ€ episodes. But in SNW those episodes werenโ€™t just filler like in older series

I understand that and fully agree with campaigning against the genocide but jumping to calling him a fascist dictator made the few people saying that seem nonsensical and hurt the whole movement. You lose a lot of credibility when you say inflammatory stuff like that even if the larger point is true

01.07.2025 17:38 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

You literally said โ€œAmerican democracy isnโ€™t collapsingโ€ because it never even existed. Thatโ€™s dismissing all the concerns people have. Youโ€™re dismissing all the serious harm being done right now to the basic democratic principles in this country by acting like they never existed in the first place

22.06.2025 18:16 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Iโ€™m not even arguing with that. Iโ€™m arguing with the smug dismissal of peopleโ€™s concerns about the future of the country with โ€œwell the current system sucked anywayโ€. It achieves nothing besides making people like you feel superior

22.06.2025 18:09 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I never claimed they were good. Iโ€™m just tired of the false equivalence. Acting like both parties are the same is why weโ€™re in this situation to begin with

I hate the โ€œthings werenโ€™t literally perfect before so itโ€™s fine if things get much worseโ€ brand of leftist so much

The United States should not wage war against Iran.

Donald Trumpโ€™s bombing of Iran is unconstitutional. Only Congress can declare war โ€” and the Senate must vote immediately to prevent an another endless war.

This is a horrific war of choice.

Obviously itโ€™ll be about how the left should have shown up to his parade to show support for the military. And that not doing that lends to the idea that democrats are weak. Meaning itโ€™s actually democrats who look bad because of this. They should have made it a moment of bipartisan patriotism

14.06.2025 23:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 8    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

โ€œThe lack of support for the military on the left casts doubt on Democratsโ€™ chances in Midtermsโ€

A good chunk of the online left is convinced that they shouldnโ€™t have to convince anyone of anything. That if you donโ€™t immediately agree with them wholeheartedly then youโ€™re the enemy. So the response youโ€™re getting isnโ€™t surprising

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

Thatโ€™s not really true. Elizabeth Warren has been talking about this since sheโ€™s been in Congress. AOC cosponsored a similar bill with Ted Cruz of all people years ago. And it was talked about a ton in the progressive wing of the party when a bunch of congresspeople got caught doing insider trading

Iโ€™ll happily criticize Democrats all day long but 9 times out of 10 when someone says โ€œdemocrats could have easily solved XYZ but chose not toโ€ thatโ€™s not the case. The issues in the US go far beyond the two parties in charge. Theyโ€™re baked into the system of government itself

10.04.2025 15:42 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The problem is they really havenโ€™t. The US system is intentionally designed to make passing laws like that a lot more difficult than they should be. Even the GOP struggle to pass laws and theyโ€™re way more willing to bend and break rules to force things through. Thatโ€™s why Trump is doing so many EOs

10.04.2025 15:33 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Youโ€™re welcome to interpret my beliefs however you like. But to suggest youโ€™re a realist is laughable. Your idea for how to enact change in a democracy is fundamentally divorced from reality. Every single person youโ€™d be willing to work with has to be ideologically identical to you.

31.03.2025 02:25 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I didnโ€™t do anything like that. And Iโ€™m done with a conversation where me stating basic facts about how (small d) democratic politics function is being twisted into somehow saying that ethnic cleansing victims arenโ€™t human. Good luck with manifesting an end to genocide or whatever your plan is

31.03.2025 01:11 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I donโ€™t get certain leftists obsession with moral purity. I mean hypothetically if I can get someone to vote no on โ€œGenocide?โ€ I donโ€™t really care how they voted in the past. What matters is that Iโ€™ve got an extra vote on my side now. Their moral character is for their friends to deal with not me

31.03.2025 00:27 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Whatever man. Iโ€™m done arguing for today. If say voters in WI apologizing first is what it takes for leftist to work with liberals then whatever. I personally think just skipping that and convincing them to vote for pro-Palestine candidates is a better strategy but so be it I guess

31.03.2025 00:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I never claimed to be. Iโ€™m just saying what anyone with a basic understanding of politics works would be saying. You need majority support to do anything. And refusing to work with people who arenโ€™t leftists isnโ€™t a great strategy of getting that majority in power

30.03.2025 23:47 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

They clearly havenโ€™t been. The top concerns among voters last election were the economy, immigration, and democracy. Gaza was nowhere near the top. If they were mobilized that would have been the case. Saying the voters were mobilized in a year with very low turnout on the democratic side is crazy
