Yesterday, at 87, my dad & former Ontario NDP leader Stephen Lewis, stood for an hour by the road in his old riding.

As a Jewish elder, he stood against genocide embodying the values he has always championed. I am so proud to see him on the right side of history – as always. ❤️

This is very powerful. If the very right wing, pro-settler, UK Chief Rabbi (of the United Synagogue) reads it, he would/should be worried. Time for someone from the msm here to rise from their slumber, show it to him and ask for a comment. How about it?

This is where I will be on Saturday. The fragile ceasefire is welcome, as is the deal for returning Palestinians and Israelis from captivity. Ultimately though, there are no long term solutions except those based on justice, equality and freedom for all from war and occupation.

We have to prevent Robinson’s supporters trying to claim city centres but the hard work to turn the tide against the far right will rest on building local alliances defending communities attack and deepening anti-racist outlooks among the wider public.

Meanwhile Britain's Labour government that made murmurs of opposition to the previous Tory government's attempt to curtail civil liberties, remains shamefully silent or worse. The protest will assemble in Whitehall at noon tomorrow - it’s right to march must be respected! 9/9

They are prioritising the narrow interests of the Israeli state, presided over by its most far-right government ever, over the interests and welfare of ordinary Jews in Britain, in a period when far right forces are growing globally. They don’t like Jews freely determining their own opinions. 8/9

This week nearly 1,000 Jews, including sone Holocaust survivors and their descendants, have signed a statement condemning attempts to prevent democratic protest on this issue. Jewish bodies that cheer the suppression of protest do not have the interests of the wider Jewish community at heart. 7/9

More than a week ago the police promised to set up a meeting with a delegation of Jews including veterans of those struggles, who have regularly attended the marches, to consider their points of view. That promised meeting has not materialised. 6/9

Not surprising given that Jewish people, including veterans of struggles against racism and fascism here and against apartheid in South Africa, are part of these marches in an organised Jewish Bloc, and regularly speak on the platforms of the rallies that accompany the marches. 5/9

The police have been acknowledged that in the course of dozens of national protest marches in London demanding a permanent ceasefire, an end to killings, ending sales of arms to the state that has carried out war crimes almost non-stop for 15 months, no such threats to synagogues have existed. 4/9

The “excuse” for banning a protest against pro-Israel media bias outside the BBC is that there is a synagogue in a back street half a mile away.
The march always intended to protest outside the BBC then march in the opposite direction from the synagogue towards Whitehall. 3/9

The most insidious,obscene aspects of this authoritarian attack on millions across the country who oppose these horrors are a): The lie that these marches do, or have ever intended to, disrupt or cause harm to Jewish people attending weekly synagogue services. b) preventing protest at the BBC. 2/9

The British State's attack on democratic rights to march in London tomorrow against mass killings, near total destruction of basic infrastructure for life in Gaza by the Israeli military, the regular pogroms and burning of olive trees in the occupied West Bank, is a complete disgrace. 1/9

This statement is a wonderful form of collective action that shows that the authorities need to listen to a much wider range of voices in the Jewish community than those whose main aim is to shield Netanyahu’s Government and the Israeli army from criticism.
