It’s just one of those funny things about the human brain I guess. I’ve volunteered at a different, amazing camp for the past 10 years and have loved it, but it doesn’t undo that pain of rejection.

I thought too deeply about the summer camp I went to as a kid and how badly I wanted to work there in high school, and how they rejected me three years in a row until I gave up entirely. That was over 20 years ago and the hurt I feel from that rejection is still strong.

I’m just glad people are wearing socks.
