your parents are supposed to set you up with a good starter plot. that's their job. if they didn't do it or couldn't complete the task because they rejected how your garden was taking shape, you have more work to do.. but also, greater opportunity for a garden that truly reflects your values.

there are many ways to approach garden-design and you could probably find a pretty strong connection between how someone would tend their garden and how they tend their relationships. the main commonality is the importance of soil, and that's the part that is *you* in this analogy. ❤️‍🔥

you have the task of remaining open and preparing your heart for it, which takes work. if the realm of the soul is a garden (and it *is*!) then our big work is to amend the soil and sew the seeds and lovingly tend your plot. that's a ripe analogy (pun intended) and it's hard not to tangent...

if birthdays are hard for you, too, then allow me to tell you this:

you are worthy of being known and cherished unconditionally, exactly as you are. that is your birthright. if your family can't do that, it's a reflection of their capacity, not your value. there is so much love out there for you--

there's that saying, "you don't get to pick your family!" but it's nonsense because you absolutely DO get to pick your family, it's not just a lottery. you can intentionally cultivate relationship and build the supportive, reciprocal kinship that allows you to thrive and challenges you to grow.

birthdays are complicated when you're an adoptee who is estranged from both your family of origin and your adopted family. I get to feeling like I have no roots and it's too easy to start drifting into a dark place.

this gal is a chaos agent! she is so screaming and so yelling into your face while flopping! if you have a paper she will tear it, if you have a computer she will stamp on it. she sees your plan and she will absolutely fuck it up ✨💛✨

so a week ago, tiny firecracker Luna came to us from what is essentially a junkyard. she is bold and social, so she squared up with him right away. he has been so dang patient, just like Ben. we hoped so badly they might bond, it is very heartening to see that working out for them both 💜

our Ben passed away a few months ago, from a sudden and aggressive cancer. he was an uncommonly good cat, and we all (including Jupiter) miss him. our other cat, Gus, is a gruff old man and doesn't really appreciate Jupe's invites to play. he just wants to eat and sleep in a sunbeam.

meet Jupiter and Luna.
Jupiter joined us almost exactly one year ago, and was a terrified kitten who was sorta feral and had almost been made a snack by some dogs. our orange dingus, Ben, helped a lot to make him feel safe and adjust. He was a playmate and friend to Jupiter.

people are, by and large, happy to feel needed and valuable. you are depriving yourself of knowledge and depriving other humans of the chance to share their knowledge in a way that benefits you both when you are too worried about seeming dumb to ask for help.

stop being afraid to seem dumb.
it's ok to not know things.
not knowing things is, in fact, an asset. if you know everything, there's nothing to learn. if you never ask for help, nobody gets to collaborate with you and help you feel competent by lending their expertise (a peak experience, btw!)

took the whole gaggle to Pride in the Park today, and Tallulah picked out a pink, yellow and blue pride flag (not really knowing what it stood for). I was explaining to her that it's the Pan pride flag, and that it represents folks who dig on any/all genders...
