Once again, this is a massive public jobs program for fascists.

This bill was never just about tax cuts and gutting social services. It's about investing our collective resources in violence and using state power to spread fear and destroy solidarity. We need to resist this with all we've got.

"An absolute moral failure": Disability advocates react to Trump's Medicaid cuts "At the end of the day, this Congress lacks the courage to do the right thing."

"An absolute moral failure."

Around one in three disabled people are on Medicaid. I spoke to disability advocates about how devastated they are that the House passed the budget bill that will slash close to a trillion from Medicaid at @motherjones.com.

A huge honor to get to write something with my hero @naomiaklein.bsky.social.

We wish it was a happier topic, but it's an urgent one.

We dove deep into the apocalyptic fervor of the far right to issue a warning about the rise of End Times Fascism.

Help us bring more people in. The more support we have, the quicker we can mobilize to build infrastructure, to strengthen mutual aid, to create food distribution solutions, to build up strike funds and the resources to publicize the General Strike more effectively. #GeneralStrike

There is an impulse in moments like this to appeal to self-interest. To say: These horrors you are allowing to happen, they will come to your doorstep one day; to repeat the famous phrase about who they came for first and who they'll come for next. But this appeal cannot, in matter of fact, work. If the people well served by a system that condones such butchery ever truly believed the same butchery could one day be inflicted on them, they'd tear the system down tomorrow. And anyway, by the time such a thing happens, the rest of us will already be dead.
No, there is no terrible thing coming for you in some distant future, but know that a terrible thing is happening to you now. You are being asked to kill off a part of you that would otherwise scream in opposition to injustice. You are being asked to dismantle the machinery of a functioning conscience.
Who cares if diplomatic expediency prefers you shrug away the sight of dismembered children? Who cares if great distance from the bloodstained middle allows obliviousness. Forget pity, forget even the dead if you must, but at least fight against the theft of your soul.

One of many moments in Omar El Akkad’s new book, β€œOne Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This,” that will stop you in your tracks.

When you feel yourself becoming complacent or surrendering to hopelessness or apathy, remember that everything that exists today exists because someone(s) dreamt it up and decided to put in the work to make it a reality. We can create new ways of doing things, new ways of being, new worlds.

No Starbucks on your way to work.
No drinks w/ the coworkers after work.
No dining out.
No Walmart run.
No quick McDonald’s drive-thru hit.

Hurt their wallets!

How Innovation Hype Devalues Reproductive Labor The sudden rise of innovation-speak over the last few decades in the United States is an important political and economic phenomenon.

Professor Jennifer Denbow critiques how the U.S. obsession with innovation devalues reproductive labor, mostly done by women. She examines the economic and political forces that prioritize profit over care, reinforcing gendered inequalities. #FeministEconomics tinyurl.com/y3d7zb7h
