Be honest & compassionate & realistic & patient w/ yourself-- even (especially!) when trauma conditioning is trying to trick or coerce you into punishing yourself.

in my city which is apparently in a state of extended military occupation due to extreme and widespread unrest a really kind sanitation worker saw me sitting out front with my kids and gave them free toy trash cans and we talked about recycling

Trauma conditioning is lying to you about why you were hurt back then. It wasn't because you dared to be or express yourself. It was because the people around you lacked the ability or interest to be kind or appropriate humans.

Your personality or needs were never the problem.

It's common to feel "stupid" when we've opened up to someone, & gotten coldness or sarcasm in response. You need to know their" inability to respect & respond to your vulnerability is about them, not you-- not your intelligence, or your sensitivity, or your desire for connection.
