you know white people have lost the plot when they've convinced themselves that the Civil Rights Act is reverse racist.
We need critical literacy more than ever. This is what happens when a country doesn't teach, remember, or understand its own history.

Only 6%-13% of k-12 edu funding comes from the fed, but that $$$ goes to serve students with disabilities and students in poverty. This is more of the same playbook of targeting the vulnerable and calling it progress.

DC folks we're gonna go to the Senate building tomorrow and confront Schumer with our resistance. This is OUR money and we won't let Congress defund our schools, transportation system, and social safety net without putting up a fight!

Just to answer some of your questions: We are asking Senate Democrats to vote NO on cloture without a path to winning a clean 30-day continuing resolution.
Cloture requires 60 votes, so the Senate GOP will need Democratic support. Urge your senators to hold the line. π

WTU members and other organizers from DC unions are urging
@SenatorCollins
and other Republican senators not to defund our city, our public schools, our transportation system, and our sanitation. It is NOT your money. #voteNOonCloture #freeDC #dcstatehood

58% of teachers find textbooks inadequate
less than 10% of class time is devoted to Black History
8% of seniors can identify slavery as a central cause of the civil war

I don't think enough elementary schools are teaching Black history. Most of the time schools have either a significant Black teacher population or a majority Black student population.
And even if it's being taught, I worry it's not being taught well. Black studies should be standard.

The Right is focused on educationβbanning books & history, & defunding schools.
The Left hasnβt been as focused on education, but should because:
1) Students deserve to learn the truth & with it they can change the world
2) Educators are the most unionized workplace & can be a force for justice
