Exciting news for roadway safety!

This is interesting on a number of levels. While I don't agree with every point, as it relates to the behavioral highway safety programs, NHTSA has overly-emphasized process over outcomes.

They have had all sorts of issues developing a modern system for grant tracking. It's literally been a project for 10 years.

Ken, your comment that, "Currently no NHTSA funding is dedicated to combat speeding" is incorrect. States spend a significant portion of Section 402 to address speeding.

Well, if they are blocking an interstate there will definitely be a large police response/presence and there's the potential for injury so I'd expect EMS.
Given all the issues with the Gaza protests, I don't see how you can avoid having a law enforcement presence.

Hello. I'm probably dating myself, but I don't appreciate protests that block traffic or cause disruption. These kind of activities pull law enforcement and first responders away from other potential emergencies.

I will also add that just because enforcement may increase, it doesn't mean all the other steps that you and other academics advocate should cease. Better use of technology, more focus on safer infrastructure and support for EMS must also continue.

Leadership from the top down will make a difference. When the Governor says it is a priority, it becomes a priority.

This is far too serious of an issue to simply say, "We told you so." But, it's no surprise that with less traffic enforcement, we've seen a spike in traffic deaths since COVID. Enforcement must be part of a comprehensive approach to roadway safety.

Agree those things can happen but will they ? On the vehicle tech side, we see no will from the current Administration to implement the law. We need industry to step up in government's absence.

The current Administration dropped the ball on implementing the technology rule making. So, DUI enforcement is going to be necessary for some time.
