“Well, he had to do what he could to get you out of the cave,” he joked, grabbing a bag of gardening tools.

Around the back, a small garden lay half finished. Some plants were growing well while other patches of dirt asked to be included.

“Want to care for what we got or plant new?”

“Sure. There’s always things to do in the garden. Ma always said the best way to clear your mind was to spend time in the garden.”

He patted and gave Bruce a small rub on the shoulder, motioning for him to follow.

“I don’t blame you.

So, Bruce, what sounds good? Meditating? Gardening? Animals?”

“Me? I’ve, uh, tried. Lois and Jon swear by it.” He shrugged, motioning to a few worn mats.

“If you’re interested. I’m more than happy to embarrass myself with you.”

“You may decide you want a longer break. But I will take you back whenever you want. And I’m keeping an ear on Gotham.”

He place the bag down and motioned for Bruce to follow, heading outside. “There’s the patio out back if you want to relax in the sun.

I’ve been told yoga is great for that.”

“Where are they? I checked the closet in your bedroom. I only saw suits and something you’d wear to a parent teacher conference.” Though, he had been in a hurry.

“Don’t tempt me. I’ve been told I’m a great host.”

When Clark returned, he had a a bag packed with more casual clothes for Bruce… at least, what little he could find.

“So, you may need to borrow some of my clothes. Suits aren’t great for relaxing,” he teased.

“Of course. Be back in a flash.” And with that, he was gone. Bruce had a moment of actual tranquillity.

Once he had helped clean up, it was less than a moment before they were surrounded by swaying fields, gentle breezes, and a distant bird calls. But most importantly?

Silence.

“If you want to head on inside, I can go back to Gotham and get you some clothes?”

“If you’re willing,” he offered, hand still extended. If Bruce wanted to wait, he wouldn’t be offended… but he had to try to get Bruce to relax.

“I’ll have you back in Gotham before you could even suit up.” He promised, offering a hand.

If you need money, Roy, you can just ask.

“Can’t blame me for trying.” He hummed, standing up and moving to Bruce’s side. “You deserve a break. Even a short one.”

“Oh, sorry.” He nodded, understanding. “So, can I steal you now for your relaxing day?” He offered with a smile, trying to change the subject as quickly as he could.

“‘Just fine,’ is about all I have. But I would do anything for him.” He didn’t want to dump on Bruce so he nodded.

“So, how is Selena?”

“I’m just saying, he’s a good kid and sometimes they need to hear it or they start to forget.”

Clark finished the pancake, pushing the plate slightly forward. “And it’s a bad habit I’m trying to break. I’m just… worried about Jon.”

“Both,” he answered truthfully. “Make sure you tell him that. I know he knows but sometimes they like to hear it.”

“He mentioned he’s been volunteering at the hospital. He’s a good kid, Bruce.” He offered a comforting smile.

“They’re always invited! You don’t have to ask ever.”

“Than a barbecue? Well, I can make anything. I’ll look at Ma’s recipe book. Pick something good.”

“So, in Smallville, we had these things called leftovers. It’s where you reheat food you made on another day,” he teased. “What would you prefer instead?”

“Then we’re grilling out. You like barbecue chicken?”

“Oh, yeah. And the training Damian puts him through? I don’t blame him,” he teased, finishing the last bite.

“We should do breakfast more often.”

“I remember Jason eating. He was bottomless, like a vacuum cleaner.” He joked, fork stabbing a few more pieces and popping them into his mouth.

“I don’t know how you manage. Sometimes, I’m worried Jon will keep eating until he pops.”

Clark smirked, getting to work on finishing the pancakes.

“These are… actually delicious. I didn’t know you could cook.”

“Good. How about tonight?”
