It’s a cliche I am sure but people have no problem wearing mixed fibre clothing, and pick and choose what they want to consider a clash with their religion.

Imagine thinking about being the first player to come out while playing in the top flight (possibly of any league globally, definitely England) and your captain says due to his beliefs he can’t wear the the band. And he is backed by some.

Sticks in my mind that the last of the “specials” was on homophobia and crypto currency ahead. And yes absolutely, Barry barely got three lines into his slight push back. Which is why it needs a bit more debate just to air different views rather than just in favour of the players

I don’t see how there can be a defence. It feels like homophobia is the bottom of the pile and not backing equal rights here has some get out cards. Not understanding a campaign is one thing, as they said with the Neville example. Understanding and so making a message is another.

Do we need to have a proper debate on the rainbow laces campaign? Felt very uncomfortable with apologies made for those not taking part. If everyone cited religious reasons no one would engage, and where would that leave us? If someone wrote a message on a kick it out shirt would we accept that?

Would have liked to hear more of your view on not wearing the armband as you got shouted down immediately before making the point. I found apologies for those deciding not to wear it disappointing. Neville may not have understood wearing the shirt, but imagine writing something inflammatory on it?!
