A moment frozen in time. Chip mans the PR lines at Anderson, Wake, & Howe, and here he is in a frenzy, a blur of red telephones all demanding to be answered. The ParaMorTorque news broke this morning. The press is hounding the firm relentlessly. No Comment, Chip repeatedly tells whoever’s on the other end. Chip is so harried that one caller gets a question in before Chip can hang up. “What is the nature of evil,” the caller asks. “If God tolerates evil, he is wicked. If God cannot abolish evil, he is not all-powerful. Which is it, Chip?” Chip’s eyes dilate into two black spirals, infinitely spinning like the cursed buildings in a Junji Ito manga. The spirals are not metaphors.
