We had a Primary School TA at our foodbank during half term.
Her partner had left her. She had 3 small children and a mountain of debt. She was living on fresh air to provide for her children.

"So close but yet so far" this still from a British Pathe film shows the distance from the stricken ship to the shore. You can't imagine what it felt like to be viewing this the other way round frozen and soaked to the skin, clinging to what little was left of the Rohilla.
