An Atlantic Puffin executed in stained glass. The bird has a black body with white belly, black head, white face, orange and gray eyes, orange legs and feet, multi colored bill (orange, grey and yellow) with yellow at its base. It is standing facing right but with head turned to the left. It is on a lower background of green, yellow, and brown, and an upper background of the blue sea and cloudy sky.

Have I mentioned that I am a “glass widower”? My wife’s retirement hobby is stained glass and following a series on Sicilian Norman-Arab designs (yes, there is such a thing!) she executed this Atlantic Puffin, based on the birds we have seen in Iceland and Ireland.

The photo montage shows my finished cactus: on the left, placed on a cork heat mat after soldering, and on the right, illuminated on a light box. The light box highlights the texture and colour of the glass beautifully. I aimed to create the effect of light falling from the top right, using yellow-green tones for highlights, pale green for mid-tones, and darker green for shaded areas.

I took part in a botanical stained glass at a workshop led by Will Burrows 🌵✨
