I’ll take a city fully of ebikes- modified or not - 100 times out of 100 over a city full of cars and trucks. Make the changes to get cars and trucks out of cities and all the pearl-clutching issues around ‘illegal ebikes’ will go away.

Isn’t the issue here the lack of proper infrastructure to accommodate the delivery riders? This forces them into conflict with pedestrians. Focussing on speed or incentives misses the real point.

This has to happen. In fact, it barely goes far enough, by still leaving a 9 hole course. Golf courses have no place in urban centers. Centennial Park next door absolutely heaves with people during week days - and especially on weekends.

Not enough people are talking about how terrible the intersection redesign of Waterloo Rd and Lane Cove Rd in Macquarie Park is. Outside a metro. Slip lanes. Fuck all pedestrian space. Dumb crossing intervals. Ffs.

My dude, a price incentive is a price incentive. Play it all out on a macro scale and people will drive an EV more than a petrol car, holding all other conditions the same.

This is why I’m against electric cars. They come with an inbuilt incentive to drive more. Paying for petrol, for all its downside, at least operates as a cost signal not to drive, which people felt day to day.
