I did a study that was really undermined by a failed manipulation.

I look at the small number of past studies that did a very similar manipulation...and they just dropped the people who did not respond correctly to the manipulation check 🫣

Pretty sure I've had 2 desk rejects in 2 attempts there, *but* they were quick and came with (associate) editor comments that were very helpful and even above the quality of a typical peer review. Very good experience 👍

It's too bad they don't share data. Such small differences could easily be the product of e.g. small portion of human persuaders giving a poor effort. Studies of this kind make it hard to know whether it's the machine aspects of LLMs (speed, compliance) that make them "work"

I wonder how many times I have to click "show less like this" on posts about the same topic from the same person before the Bluesky algorithm takes the hint (I don't want to mute the account in question, just don't want that account's side interest clogging my feed)

The student owning a Corning domain name (perhaps to send emails from an official-looking address) might play a role here too I suppose. Probably a very interesting/farcical story in there somewhere

TIL that when Blackboard shows you a student's overall grade as a percentage, it does *not* round, it truncates. So e.g. I had a student with 89.99 as shown in the UI...when I downloaded grades as CSV I saw they had 89.9975. Not the behavior I expected!

Had a student do a survey on Prolific that included the classic political knowledge question, "What job does J.D. Vance now hold?" Surprising number of "U.S. Senator from Ohio" responses that I doubt were people who knew the freshman senator but missed the part where he was elected VP

I've seen some guys across different teams (like Narvaez with the Sox) refuse the assignment and very quickly sign back on to play at the designated level. Is there something to gain by electing FA when the player (maybe) wants to stay with the org?
