It allows the player to move forward infinitely.
Starts as 3 segments. When they reach the center one, I drop the one behind & place a new one in front.

Switching back and forth between Father John Misty and Mitski like the true sad boi that I am.
14.03.2025 22:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Serve to create struggle & tension and triumph. Nothing like extracting on fumes & being overwhelmed with last reinforcement barely diving into the ship.
The core loop is perfect too.
I believe "3rd person"-ragdoll-squad-shooter is gonna be a fad for a bit, but I doubt anyone can do it like HD2.
3. Helldivers 2
High rank for this, I think it gets more fungible below the first two, but I think the game's dedication to the bit down to the smallest detail makes it super compelling.
All the restrictions and seemingly odd choices ("Dance-Dance" input on abilities, armor pen weak limits")
Valhiem had an unmatched sense of discovery for me in terms of how you progress through biomes and bosses, something sorely missing at the time I played Minecraft (alpha), and now copied endlessly.
Visuals were nothing impressive, but now have that nostalgic tinge I can't help but love every biome.
I admire Valhiem's combat difficulty and depth. And I love it's insistence on being obtuse in places like inventory and teleportation restrictions, forcing moments of creatitivty, tragedy and triumph.
20.02.2025 01:57 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 02. Valhiem
Another case of "perfecting the formula", but Valhiem sits more squarely on the shoulders of giants. Sandbox survival such and such wouldn't be the same without it I believe.
1. Slay the Spire
Starting with it's core loop & exceptional balance even many years without a patch, it's the founding father of deckbuilding roguelike games and has no equal in terms of design. I also think the "weirdness" in it's art & enemies is an underrated aspect of it's success.
