I am biased in favor of America, I think, because I have lived there. However, my European friends (mostly SE, DE, FR, DK, FI, NL, ES) are in various stages of cooling to frigid in feelings about the US. I guess I have a couple of Norwegian friends too, but don’t tell anyone.

The problem is rarely the capacity of the student, though sometimes it is the lack of motivation of the student. But if you are motivated, then keep looking for other teachers/methods. Something will click!

I understand. I am still sure you can learn math. Not all teachers are equal. I have no opinion whatsoever about brilliant, but I have known some teachers that couldn’t teach their way out of a box. If a student is not learning, sometimes the problem is compatibility with the teaching method.

As someone doing a PhD in their 40s and knows other olds doing them, even someone in their 50s: you can dramatically change directions if you want to. I promise.

As someone who teaches statistics, my other advice is, don’t be afraid of math. Anybody can learn math, at any age.
