Time to drop the really big bomb:
Reason is, and ought only to be, the slave of the passions.
Have a nice day!

Here Are the Attack Plans That Trump’s Advisers Shared on Signal The administration has downplayed the importance of the text messages inadvertently sent to The Atlantic’s editor in chief.

Pete Hegseth yesterday: "Nobody was texting war plans."

Well sure if you don't consider minute-by-minute details including what kind of planes and when missiles are launched "war plans" then we're cool

πŸ‡²πŸ‡Ή Malta: "Kant" Must Be Removed From Miriana's Eurovision Entry - Eurovoix The European Broadcasting Union has stated that "Kant" has to be removed from its entry for Eurovision 2025.

I've gotten giggles when lecturing on the categorical imperative with my New York accent. Apparently the Maltese accent creates similar issues. Either that, or the EBU are all hardcore empiricists and consequentialists. #Kant #Eurovision

My favourite detail: The spiritual experience that brought "Rabbi Binyamin" to what he considers Judaism was a high school production of "Fiddler on the Roof." Oy.

Synagogue of shame: The converts being coerced and exploited by the British β€˜rabbi’ who follows Jesus - The Jewish Chronicle Andrew Sheldrake – known to his followers as Rabbi Binyamin – has attracted scores of disciples

The Jewish community in Norwich is tiny, so this strange group was unavoidable when we lived there. Disturbed to learn that it's probably a dangerous cult and not just a weird example of cultural appropriation.

What is Institutional Ethics Review, and Why is it (Still) so Unsatisfactory for the Social Sciences? In this blog, Dr Rebecca Tapscott reflects on a two-day international workshop held at the University

This should be of interest to any social scientist who ever had trouble with ethics review, and any ethicist who ever wondered why ethics review has so little to do with ethics. It was a great workshop which I was proud to attend. www.gla.ac.uk/schools/soci...

Yes, I think they meant terms like "river," "sea," "Palestine" and (most interesting for me as a political theorist) "free," but that chant also contains the contested terms "from," "to," and (most interesting to philosophers) "will be."

Death of a feminist legend A scholarship student from Epsom Girls became one of the most acclaimed feminist thinkers in America but died tragically young

Hard to believe that it was 20 years ago that feminist political philosopher Susan Moller Okin died at only 57 years old.

It was a bracing professional and personal loss.

New newspaper article about her just published, including reflections from her family. newsroom.co.nz/2024/11/25/d...

Dear Professor Nozick,

I have been meaning to send you a note ever since you did not telephone the second time last week just to say that I decided after all to drop the offending post-apostrophes from the possessive of Rawls. This is, as I told you, according to the Chicago Manual of Style an honor due only to Moses and Jesus, but with us aesthetic considerations won out. The decision puts us somewhat in a class by ourselves -- I note that in Brian Barry's new book he and Oxford Press write Rawls's -- but I don't mind being different. I trust that you will not.

sincerely,
Margot Cutter
