Made it to the Air Medical Transport Conference in Omaha. It will be interesting to see how my presentation on the rise of vaccine preventable diseases and managing these patients in transport will be received.

I’ve only seen a few complete Simpsons episodes and none of the Treehouse of Terror ones. I just never got the appeal of the show.

Made the trek to New Orleans to participate in the legislative general assembly of ENA. Once again advocating that membership and classes are unaffordable for nurses in developing nations.

Well it happened. Yesterday a patient insisted on being admitted for URI symptoms because he was convinced he had the covid variant that kills you he read about on Facebook. He wouldn’t listen to my explanations and left AMA to go to another hospital that “isn’t a liberal shithole.” I can’t even.

Can confirm that the vast majority of Covid patients I am seeing in the ER complain of sore throat, either “razors” or “ground glass” as the descriptor.

Over the last few days, the RN manager for the ED resigned and 1/3 of the staff ED nurses have also resigned. This is not good.

I submitted a proposal for a medical conference presentation on measles, diphtheria, and similar vaccine preventable diseases and it got accepted. I was warned to “not get political”. We’re far past that and I’ll be sure to offend any anti-vax attendees with some blunt messages.

wtf is going on? The last three ER shifts, over half of my patients have been abdominal pain or N/V. Anyone else seeing a surge in abdominal complaints? #MedSky

Ugh. Every time I order a dimer, I feel a sense of dread.

Blah. I saw so many diffuse general abdominal pains yesterday and we didn’t have ultrasound coverage. I could hear the CT tech crying at one point.

I see so many dental patients in the ED in the south. So many of them are repeat visits that can’t afford or find dental care to fix it. So they keep coming back every so often for more antibiotics. Not all of them are from meth either.

Always take a RN with you when it’s time to have the hard conversations with family of patients. When they need to, few in healthcare can provide such a compassionate presence. Although look closely at which ER nurse you pick, they can fool you.

This is a war without heroes. My googly eye reign of terror continues, radiology is the newest victim.

As someone who works at a hospital that cares for incarcerated patients, I can attest to the poor treatment many inmates receive behind bars. Many of them aren’t brought to the ER until their condition has progressed to serious or critical. It’s not humane. #MedSky

Yeah if we get the holodeck, humanity will be gone within two generations.
