This needs to be an industry wide effort that I can't tackle alone and I don't even want to, so if you are interested in creating something like this, please shoot me a DM or reply here.
Not just developers, but designers, marketing or anything in between are more than welcome to reach out.

Also no discrimination or hate speech will be tolerated. Queer works and creators are welcome. They also won't be lumped into the NSFW category unless, it is explicit content. I hope that goes without saying, but I thought I'd clarify.

I'm also a game dev and would love to make this my full time employment long-term. I think it's about time developers take control of the industry that seems to be at the mercy of people who couldn't care less about the people in it. That's why I want to propose the idea of:

I have a decade's worth of professional web/software engineer exp. Among other things I've made ecommerce, brochure sites and worked on bigger, corporate projects like: www.zooplus.de/magazin
It supported 3m unique monthly visitors (2023 metric), so I have some experience with sites at scale, too.

With Steam and itch bending a knee so easily, it might be time to put my skills to good use and help the community create an independent, developer-first marketplace. I'll detail my experience and ideas below.

I feel this in my soul. Every day there are new, man-made horrors happening and we're supposed to clock into our jobs and go on, pretending everything is normal. It's not and I'm tired of it.
There needs to be a huge societal shift, but I doubt that's gonna happen any time soon...

This sounds like a lovely idea! I hope you get around to making it, I really dig the car model.

That's the dream isn't it, to make it sustainable long term. I think you have the right idea. The more you show off your game the higher the chance it can take off. I wish I could help more, but I also struggle similar thoughts. I try to focus on the people behind the game, so I feel happy for them.

Among Us was considered a "failure" before covid hit and streamers picked it up during lockdowns. Overnight success is a myth, usually it's years of hard work in the background. Best you can do, imo, is to keep working and prepare for it.

These are all valid feelings. However, most of it comes down to luck, that's just the ugly truth of it. All those indie games that have seen huge success are mostly due to luck, yes many of them are also good games. Usually a big streamer/youtuber picked them up and it just snowballed from there.

I think you can hide in your room regardless, as a treat, if you want to.

That makes sense, art is an extension of the artist. It's hard to distance yourself from something that you created.
