25.07.2025 10:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Fantastic day yesterday at the 'Popular Culture and World Politics: Portraying War, Conflict, & Political Violence' one day symposium. I learnt so much from 'dresses and drones' to 'weaponizing music' concluding with discussion on some fantastic low budget films in 'Wakaliwood, Uganda'.
25.07.2025 10:24 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Excellent keynote today from @maddipow.bsky.social - Everything she said made pure sense and even included a little history lesson in open science ๐งฌ (and bropen science ๐) There is more than one way to be scientific! ๐งช #QRS2025
28.01.2025 15:25 โ ๐ 15 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Excited to be at #QRS2025 for two days nerding out ๐ค (do we use hash tags here?)
28.01.2025 10:50 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0ME: *writing in my journal with the sole aim of pissing off future historians and archaeologists* I returned to my home - which is built in the usual style - by the normal way, and prepared and ate dinner in the way I often but not always do
27.01.2025 14:00 โ ๐ 21829 ๐ 2963 ๐ฌ 263 ๐ 121Term one teaching complete! As exhausted as we always are by this point, London is very pretty and I know I am lucky to work in such beautiful buildings (excluding strand building, if you know you know ๐) with wonderful colleagues. Now to steam on w PhD before signing off for a rest ๐๐คถ๐ ๐ฆ
10.12.2024 15:12 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Great photo, H10 was a summer tour right? He must have been hot in his suit ๐
29.11.2024 19:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Thank you so much! I loved doing them, itโs a real privilege to hear peopleโs stories. They went well thank you, currently wading through my data and writing up ๐
27.11.2024 13:16 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is one of my favorite, low-tech, ways of visualizing the past! Doesn't oversell the reconstruction, shows possible past and present in same view, works, rain or shine and without power.

26.11.2024 17:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Do follow @chlocake.bsky.social. I, like many veterans of the conflict in Afghanistan, contributed to this study and I found doing so personally very cathartic. Iโm also pleased it has led me on the quest I now find myself on in critically analysing veteran testimony in other historical interests.
26.11.2024 14:15 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I am so glad you enjoyed it Ally, and even more that it has promoted your own study which I look forward to hearing about in the future! Thank you for such a kind endorsement as I try to find my feet over here on blue sky ๐
26.11.2024 17:53 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Like most historians, I ought to blog a lot more than I do - here is a brief outline of my PhD for the โgeneral readerโ with methods and findings to follow in greater detail over the coming months. Let me know what you think ๐ค

Quite a lot of pressure for the first post - thought Iโd introduce myself - hello Iโm Chloe, Iโm in my final year of my PhD on Operation Herrick and Iโm interested in war, the experience of war, oral history and history in general ๐ค
