New from CEC — Trams: "Granton to the Edinburgh BioQuarter and Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Beyond" consultation will start on Monday 25 August 2025 and run for 12 weeks, finishing on Monday 17 November 2025. It will be hosted on the Council’s Consultation Hub.

A cycle mechanic emerges from the door of the Wee Spoke Hub, Edinburgh's inclusive cycle workshop, test-riding a white Peugeot drop-bar bicycle. He is draped with a Pride flag, in the style of a Superman cape. More Pride flags are visible in the background - it could be that the photo is taken on Pride Weekend.

The same photo, one second later. The cycle mechanic has now passed the front door of the Wee Spoke Hub, and is intently powering uphill.

The cycle mechanic is now on the downhill leg of the test ride. He has the brakes in a death-grip, one can imagine the white knuckles - but the Pride cape is still streaming behind. The picture appears to be slightly speed-blurred.

The consultation on the proposed north-south tram route from Granton to the Bioquarter will now start in mid-August 2025, slightly later than planned, to avoid the school holidays.

I’m considering introducing a new e-bike cycle hire scheme in Edinburgh this year. My Committee is holding a number of vendor workshops to understand how a pilot of this new scheme might work. First up was Dott.

Interesting workshop to consider a possible new bike hire scheme for Edinburgh today.

Another operator will run a workshop tomorrow, then we’ll get a report to committee in the Spring looking at options.
