Trump Seeks to Cut Basic Scientific Research by Roughly One-Third, Report Shows

Pope Leo hits out at critics of global warming
In his first major statement on climate change, the pontiff criticises those who minimise climate change.
"God will ask us if we have cultivated and cared for the world that he created for the benefit of all and for future generations, and if we have taken care of our brothers and sisters - what will be our answer, my dear friends?"

The main reason climate policy has failed is that it's opposed by an international coalition of fossil fuel incumbents, authoritarian governments, & oligarch-owned media.
That's it. It's the people who killed it who are responsible for killing it! Not the people who supported it! FFS.

Mr. Wright falsely claimed that critics of an Energy Department report โ written by five researchers who reject the established scientific consensus that the burning of oil, gas and coal is dangerously heating the planet โ did not dispute any of the reportโs data or facts.
โThey just didnโt like that the conclusion of our report was, climate change is a real physical phenomenon thatโs unfolding, itโs just not the crisis itโs often sold to be.โ
In fact, 85 scientists submitted a sweeping critique of the report detailing a litany of inaccuracies, including claims that sea level rise is not accelerating; that more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will help plants grow; and that computer models exaggerate future temperature increases. The American Meteorological Society, a leading science organization, also outlined what it called โfoundational flawsโ in the report. And the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the nationโs leading scientific advisory body, also contradicted the Energy Department report, saying the evidence that greenhouse gases threaten human health has only grown over time.
this is sooooooo f'ing sweet. every time Sec. Chris Wright lies about the DOE Climate Working Group report, reporters cite our response.

President Donald Trump correctly pointed out during his eulogy for Kirk on Sunday in Phoenix that โno side in American politics has a monopoly on disturbed or misguided people.โ He also criticized the absurd view that became fashionable among some liberal academics during the late 2010s that certain forms of speech can be considered violent because they cause stress. โIf speech is violence, then some are bound to conclude that violence is justified to stop speech,โ Trump said. โAnd weโre not going to let that be justified.โ
This is Washpost Opinion's takeaway from Trump's speech at the Charlie Kirk funeral.
No mention of him saying, "I hate my opponent." No mention of Trump's role in fomenting the January 6 riot.
Just unbelievable how bad that editorial board has become.

Its worth noting that when the first modern climate models were published in 1970 it was hardly clear that there was a warming trend; if anything there had been flat or slightly cooling global temperatures for the past three decades:

On July 29, 2025, the Department of Energy (DOE) published a report from its Climate Working Group (CWG). This report features prominently in the EPA's reconsideration of its 2009 Endangerment Finding...
The Department of Energy hired five academics to raise doubts about climate change. 85+ climate experts (organized by @andrewdessler.com) reviewed their report. Our conclusion, detailed in 450 pages of analysis: it is biased, full of errors, and not fit to inform policy making.
