I was so fortunate to profile Miss Major for SF Weekly.

From her political education from the leaders of the Attica prison uprising and getting knocked out by a cop at Stonewall to performing in the Jewel Box Revue and founding TGIJP, she led an extraordinary life.

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.

Nobody wants it as a story but I have multiple NYPD sources who voted for Mamdani, are eager for his win in November, and who say their colleagues quietly feel the same.

They like that he wants NYPD to focus on crime, not quality of life enforcement.

October 11, 2025 at 12:59 PM As a person who went through the bisexual she/her- she/they- they/she- they/them-they/he- (and some days) queer AF he/him pipeline, I believe that my coming out has been a cyclical and spiritual experience. Every day, I find ways to explore what gives me the most peace beyond the restrictions imposed on us since we were babies. As a trans immigrant, coming out and transitioning is a decolonizing process. Colonial violence came with binary restrictions of gender; when before, androgyny and queerness had an established place within the community, and in some communities, genderqueer people were regarded as holy.

As a trans survivor, coming out has also been a place of healing. I've experienced abuse in an environment that made it known that my body wasn't my own. After the hospitalization a few years ago, I decided to come out fully. And it was a healing experience. For the first time, in my thirties, I learned to trust myself and accept that I am a trans man. Nothing was more healing to me as a survivor than getting top surgery and taking HRT.

I share this because it's been hard the last few months. Seeing politicians who not only dehumanize trans people, but also dehumanize immigrants and survivors. Sharing these identities made it hard for me to trust the communities I am a part of when I find that all of my experiences of violence are interconnected. Abandoning one community over another goes against who I am, and I hope more people can see that. So for National Coming Out Day, I only want to dream and hope for a day without these systems of violence. That all of my people are free. So that people from places like Gaza, Congo, Sudan, Myanmar, and Ethiopia are free from violence. That there is

Obviously a subskeet here, I'm trying not to put too much negative energy in the space, but it sucks to see other trans people say that our work is useless while we are processing trauma from this work in real time.

If capitalism falls tomorrow, nonprofits will be obsolete. Some folks seem to believe that a function of capitalism will save us. It won't.

But that doesn't change the fact that staff are doing incredible work. You may not see it in the media, but that doesn't mean our work is “useless.”

This morning, my husband & I spent our time dreaming up our dream nursery, which we hope we will have a reason to create soon.

We are dreaming of our trans futures regardless. This is how we hope: we will focus not only on the trans joy we have currently but also on the trans joy in the future.

Yesterday, I drove my friend from the hospital for gender affirming surgery and had a party in her home with other trans friends.

Reminds me that no matter what happens, trans people will continue to choose to fucking live.
