This is not only incredibly unfair, but also Really Wasteful. Think about all the food that gets thrown out because nobody BUYS it, because they either don't need it or in many cases, just can't afford it. The (literal and figurative) mess this causes is grotesque.

Like, Christ on a Crutch, everyone in the world Needs To Eat. We need nutrients and protein and sugars and fibre in order to Not Die. And instead we've created a system where the only people who Can eat are people with money.

Food should be free.

It's one thing if you pay for a dish at a restaurant or a deli. In that case, you are paying for The Labour, for someone else to make a meal for you.

Raw ingredients, though? Produce, baking materials, meats and eggs, breads, canned beans? You shouldn't have to spend a CENT.

I did like how you used the Joy-Cons to turn on a kettle and fumble with a packet of NeoCitran while it boiled.

This is the Science Centre all over again. Ford shutters or takes over a public institution because it's near a future transit line and his developer cronies want the land.

Funny thing is, this is DAMN CLOSE to the background of one of my characters from the story that @newedgeswordmag.bsky.social accepted. That background story is not yet written in prose though. Maybe it should be.
