‘Mud on our hands; blood on his’: fury lingers one year after Spain’s deadly floods Survivors in Valencia call for consequences, particularly for regional president, after country’s worst natural disaster this century

"...if there had been warning, that huge mass of water – that catastrophe; that apocalypse – would still have come down, and all those cars would have been swept away and all those houses would have been flooded. But there wouldn’t have been as many deaths."

Here's a photo of my friend and colleague, Jorge Bautista, getting shot in the face with a flashbang grenade. The ICE Agent is so afraid of Jorge (who was posing no threat) that he has wet himself. Please share this photo. Everyone needs to know what cowards ICE agents are.

Pedantic I know, but there should have been an 'Unaffiliated/Other' group in the graph (i.e., mean 'Very Negative' for the groups shown is 48.2% not 41%)

Thousands evacuated in Spain amid deadly wildfires and new heatwave Temperatures of 44C predicted as blazes rage across Europe

When you see these pictures, remember that the exiting civil servant Chair of the UK Climate Change Committee said, not long back, that 2050 would be very much like today

As I said at the time, utter, irresponsible, bollox

I visited the museum two weeks ago. The whole place was dark, tired, and uninspiring.

And to realise it was an actual body on display…I don’t know what to say.

…except, Yes! The answer is Yes!

Other work I did with @profjohndrury.bsky.social on mass emergencies also found that people co-operate with each other & the idea of selfish 'panic' is a myth. This is shown in the way that #Liverpool has come together after this terrible incident

Vehicle As a Weapon (VAW) Detection Guidance This guidance is primarily focussed on Vehicle As a Weapon (VAW) detection technology as part of NPSA’s wider Vehicle Borne Threats, HVM and MTA programmes of work

All I can take from this NPSA guidance, is the immense challenge involved in countering vehicle-as-weapon threats.

Please, beware the 9 o'clock jury with 'easy' answers.

So, I've just read the new HMG 'Amber Book', and have to admit I'm impressed. It is comprehensive and IMO provides a more encompassing - 'Whole of Society' cognizant - structure than the old CONOPS.
I find it reassuring that Cabinet Office 'get's it'.

Also, only 3 typos

News of the #IceStorm in #Ontario, got me reaching for Murphy's ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️forensic analysis of leadership following their 1998 disaster.
One of the themes he discusses will be familiar to people here, but it also made me think about direct parallels with the Valcencia floods.

UK: recommended from @hasisd.bsky.social. Linking the EU Preparedness Union strategy back into a UK framing, but also highlighting complementarities across approaches. The operationalisation of WoS is not just LGD-led, but from within sector & then cross-lifeline. Key point on #militarymobility...
