Rethinking the Origins of Greatness A new review paper challenges our assumptions about how exceptional performance develops.

As we marvel at the skill of the #Olympic athletes, @sbkaufman.bsky.social has some fascinating thoughts about talent development.
It’s often range of diverse interest & practice, not hours of single channel focus, that supports talent development.

A soft illustrated poster by Beth Evans with a pale blue background and a scalloped black border. At the top, a cream banner reads β€œproud of you”. Below, handwritten text thanks the reader for getting through another day and for caring, noting that empathy can feel in short supply and appreciating care for both loved ones and people we do not know. At the bottom, a small white character peeks up and waves, surrounded by little yellow stars. The overall tone is warm, gentle, and encouraging. Picture by Beth Evans.

A research invitation flyer with a light pink background and green paisley illustrations. The heading reads β€œYou are Invited” . The text explains that most pain research has focused on white women, and South Asian women with long-term pelvic pain are not being heard. It invites South Asian women living in the UK who have experienced pelvic pain for more than six months (no diagnosis required) to share their experiences. The flyer provides a QR code and an email address (mahira.budhraja@uwe.ac.uk) for joining the study. It explains that interested participants will complete a brief questionnaire, and 12 women will be invited for a 45–60 minute interview about living with chronic pelvic pain. The bottom-right corner features a large QR code for accessing the questionnaire.

Educational psychology within the polycrisis | BPS Dr Dan O’Hare and Dr Louise Edgington call for commitment and action.

We're in a polycrisis that threatens the conditions that sustain human life and wellbeing.

We must decide, as educational psychologists, not IF, but HOW we will adapt.

Silence is no longer tenable and incrementalism is not sufficient

Interesting study on teacher talk suggests it varies more by teacher style than as result of school systems or instructional format. Novices reprimand more, experienced command more. And classes with more black students experience more exclusionary discipline. #edpsychs

β€˜A disaster for disabled people’: Shabana Mahmood urged not to scrap recording of non-crime hate incidents Home secretary confirmed this week that police in England and Wales would be scrapping category in its current form

The thing which is so regularly forgotten about "non-crime hate incidents" is that the perpetrators escalate, not to mention the distress they cause victims. There is no such thing for those affected as a "low level hate incident". There is a pattern of behaviour.
