Seeing this post, I googled some of my favorite old shows, and realized the The Wire and The Shield ran in the same period, circa 20 years ago 🤯 ...man, I miss tv shows like those.

The US Republican party is for the Americans to topple. They are the ones empowering them. Don't expect anyone else to do it. And don't expect anyone to believe that it is free for Denmark to push back politically. I mean, the US literally threatened to invade the kingdom a few weeks ago.

Right now it is the smaller things. Supermarkets label stuff as non-American. Workplaces replace coca-cola etc with other brands. Public sectors stop using US big tech. A lot of the stuff that makes the USA float will lose buoyancy, just by slight changes of consumer behavior all over the world.

True, most Americans are too self absorbed to care. But it is just more fuel to the anti-Americanism fire that is currently lighting up everywhere. They are loosing friends faster than anything I've ever experienced.

My only guess is inward manipulation. That he wants to provoke members to invest. But it does seem quite risky.

That is an opinion. I don't know enough to dismiss it. But I don't think the right response to it is to make it easier for GOP to steal the election.

Hard to say. I think they will. But I don't know.

There might be a midterm. And you might win an election even if it isn't free and fair. Then you would have given new hope for healing democracy. If you start a revolution and fail... I don't even want to finish this line of thought.

Didn't know that he did that. But you will never find someone in power that you agree with on everything. In any functional democracy you need to bend towards voters. Else you won't get votes. What you need is not to find a lover, but to find someone how can change things to improve your position.

My strategy would be to fight for the midterm, and decide on the revolution later. But as I am not American, I cannot pretend to say what is right for you. I think the sane population of the USA is in a horrible position.

Gavin Newsom made some headlines in Europe the other day, with some comments that had quite a lot of punch and pathos. They must be there somewhere. Maybe not in the Congress chairs but pushing on the people that can push further up the chain might shift some stances.

If you look at my posts, you will see that I do not disagree with your assessment on the maga-strategy. But not all democrats are scared. Rally around those.

I don't think that is obvious yet. But running into uncoordinated resistance fueled by panic and despair, will certainly make it so. I think Reich is absolutely right.

My guess is that they try to keep things from escalating into a chaos that gives DJT the political capital to invoke the insurrection act, and use the US army against the American citizens to put an end to democracy. They place their bets on the long game.

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

I think people generally underestimate the US government. They seem to have carefully studied the power grab in Germany in the 1930's, and follow the same playbook. #ICE is basically Gestapo, having the same objectives and methods, protected by lawless leadership and propaganda.

Some structures exist only because we believe in them. If we stop believing, they stop working. It doesn't mean they were never true. Just that one of the pillars were based on something fragile as perception.

But I guess varying definitions of "existence" could change that interpretation.

Fascism is a quite accurate classification, when describing the current vector of politics in the USA.

Unfortunately, the notion of real evil existing and being something that requires active resistance is a concept that "pop postmodernism" has left too many ill-equipped to confront.

I really hope that Mark Rutte didn't screw over the people of #greenland in some shady promise to Trump. He cannot decide for them and he cannot decide for Denmark. He simply doesn't have that mandate.
