Local news operations could do that. Different sort of event, but years ago when Asarco miners went on strike here in southern Arizona, we ran a box every day in the business section with some basic stats, like the number of days on strike, and new developments.

Column: Once again, a local family and Tucson itself are the focus of intense attention due to a sensational crime. Overall it sucks to be in this position again. It's also exposed our sheriff and the careless desire to turn a member of the victim's family into a suspect.

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.

It sucks what they’re doing to our country, and my city especially

God only knows how much damage they’ll do before they’re stopped, much of it irreversible

But they are very much not winning

The idea: The repression and violence that we use in foreign countries and against foreign migrants eventually are used at home against us. When we run out of frontiers and conquests, when we wall off our borders, the security apparatus we've built doesn't just disappear. It is turned against us.

I recently learned the phrase "imperial boomerang." Lately the idea hasbeen discussed often, not using that phrase. It's part of Greg Grandin's point in his Pulitzer Prize winning book "The End of the Myth: From the Frontier to the Border Wall in the Mind of America." We are feeling the boomerang.

Tim Steller's column: RTA won't fix potholes, would rehabilitate roads For Star subscribers: The ads saying the new regional transportation plan will fix Tucson potholes are misleading. RTA Next won't do that, but it puts almost $200 million toward rebuilding

Column: Tucson-area residents are seeing pervasive ads that suggest the new regional transportation plan will fix potholes. That's misleading. But if voters pass RTA Next and its tax extension, a sizable chunk of money would go to major-road rehabilitation in the city.
