Just beware if on other medications - as can interfer with how they work. And remember too much of a good thing can be bad for you as it can cause liver problems.

In today’s Daily Mail Health section, I explore the surprising science behind turmeric.

Once dismissed as a kitchen myth, new research shows its active compound curcumin may aid weight control, reduce inflammation and even help those coming off weight-loss jabs.

Tobacco firms once dismissed smoking harms as β€œjust data.” Food giants now use the same playbook on sweeteners & ultra-processed food.

This week in the Mail I explore a landmark study. I trust science, not corporations β€” so no more diet drinks or sweetened yoghurts for my family.

Heartburn isn’t β€œjust indigestion”. I’ve seen it end lives. Yesterday in the Mail I wrote about a man whose reflux was ignored until it became incurable cancer. The warning signs are simple, the tests are quick, and the treatment can save lives. Please don’t ignore persistent symptoms.

Everyone thinks only hardcore workouts make you healthy. But in this week’s Daily Mail health section, I’ve written about how even brisk 10‑minute walks can slash disease risk. Forget Lycraβ€”simple steps are powerful medicine.

The only thing in life that’s guaranteed is death. Make sure you die the way you want to.

In this week’s Daily Mail Good Health section, I share the story of two very different endings. The difference? A simple conversation and one crucial form.
it may be so important for you or your loved ones

The crowded A&E corridors and disillusioned resident doctors highlight the failure of the current model of medical training.

NHS staff, taxpayers and patients have been failed. In this week's Mail Good Health article I discus the new national enquiry into this and what I feel needs to change.

However, these solutions take time. But from today all hospitals could improve patient safety and change mentalities throughout the health and social care system, by spreading the risks which are concentrated in the A&E department. Let’s not waste a good crisis.

Last week I had the honour of speaking at the Brighton Med Chi society about the perpetual crisis in A&E. The video of the lecture shows what we have done to try and solve them, and the solutions to how to tackle the appalling reality of corridor care.

There are some things we often don’t talk about – erectile dysfunction being one of them. But actually its the canary in the mine of cardiovascular health, often the first sign that you are at risk of a multiple cardiovascular risks such as strokes and heart attacks.

We need to be honest and look at how those at the very top of the NHS, from the GMC to the Royal Colleges to NHS Education England, have let down a whole generation of doctors, tax payers and patients.

Formed in 1847, the society's aim is to provide a social network and support, alongside free continuing medical education talks. Last year the society changed, to be not just a society for medical clinicians, but for all health care professions as well as those interested in medical issues.

I am not someone who has medical zealotry beliefs……. except one.

My zealotry belief in practising medicine, which the best available evidence, shows us is most beneficial.

And when the evidence changes, I will change my opinion. So for now I will continue to take the covid vaccine.

03.12.2024 07:39 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

But if the evidence changes, so will my opinion. That’s not the zealotry. That’s putting patient welfare above all else

03.12.2024 07:37 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

More evidence showing me that however much I don’t want to put a vaccine into my arm with no longer term safety data, I will continue to do so based on an evidenced based risk benefit analysis.

.

The evidence shows us how great the long term sequala of covid is and that vaccines reduce those risks. In this week’s mail health section, I look at a paper on the risks of autoimmune disease after covid and how the vaccine can help prevent that.

03.12.2024 07:37 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So for now I will continue to take the covid vaccine.

Those who choose otherwise, have a right to say no; what we do to our bodies is our choice

But I have a right to take the vaccine and explain why I have chosen to do so without the abuse and threats that writing about this has incurred.

03.12.2024 07:37 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There are several factors - diet, exercise, smoking and some evidence that excessive antibiotics could be causative.

But despite many people’s fixed and form beliefs, there is absolutely no evidence that vaccines have contributed to this spike in cases.

My first foray into blsky

I mainly tweet about NHS issues and evidence-based medicine

I have a column every fortnight in the health’s section of the Mail where I get to critically appraise the latest medical news

This week’s column was on bowel cancer and what may be causing the rise in cases.
