Ending over-consumption, such as of meat and of products containing plastic, and stabilizing our population at a more sustainable level, will also go a long way towards reducing pollution.

We must scale back our damaging activities that lead to the toxification of our environment. We need much tougher industry regulation, better waste disposal and processing systems, and a complete phase-out of fossil fuels and harmful chemicals.

The Trump administration may try to deny the science, but the reality is clear: climate pollution harms human health and destabilizes the systems we all depend on. Stripping the Environmental Protection Agency of its authority to regulate climate pollution is a dangerous step backward.

America didn’t become a nation of 330 million overnight.

It is high time world leaders start acknowledging planetary boundaries and implementing meaningful measures to rein in the destructive human enterprise. A more sustainable path, including empowering population solutions and more sustainable economic systems, is within reach - with political will.
