1/2 A reminder. The PREDICT breast web tool is free to use (and widely used - over 4 million accesses worldwide since launch), but we (I) have no funding to support maintenance or further development. If you are feeling philanthropic, or know someone who does drop me a DM.

Fab thread. Biggest challenge is where money is spent, not where it comes from.

It’s hard being a doctor.
But it’s even harder being a patient.

Patients will suffer as a result of this 5 day strike.

I do not stand with my colleagues in the BMA.

Exploring the earnings of NHS doctors in England (2025 update) Two years ago, we produced an explainer on doctors’ pay in England, exploring how it had changed over time, how it compares to other salaries in the wider economy, and how it compares with what doctor...

To anyone wondering if doctors are so badly done to that they have no option but to strike please have a look at this independent analysis of their pay. www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/resource/exp...

I’m 65 and becoming less and less engaged with the digital world. Developers assume a level of digital literacy (and interest) that I just don’t have/don’t want. And my β€˜low digital literacy’ appears to be my fault, rather than that of the developer.

I can’t imagine any major business in turnaround publishing a business plan that didn’t incorporate a fully costed implementation plan.

Not sure what I’m about to say is English, but a plan without a delivery plan isn’t a plan.

Hmm. No delivery plan today.

03.07.2025 15:15 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 1

Agree. Tho’ reckon we need to think of the value add in terms of healthy life years. And to be provocative that means that other than in specific instances- eg genetically determined conditions -delivering prevention strategies for single diseases may well not be a wise use of public money.

Population based risk estimation (by any method) is an evidence free health policy.

03.07.2025 14:38 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Totally. I was on the team that redesigned the health check (don’t start). No matter how many times I told the team that telling people β€˜their’ risk didn’t change their behaviour, nobody wanted to listen. (Probs cos no 10 health team didn’t want to listen).

Fab thread on the β€˜genomics revolution’.

1. Might be helpful for a few people with conditions that are closely genetically linked.
2. Most conditions aren’t.
3. The cost will be enormous
4. Lots of people will become unnecessarily anxious
4. Telling people their risk doesn’t change behaviour

03.07.2025 14:29 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Fab thread and to augment this point. There is no evidence whatsoever that telling people about their genetic risk changes their behaviour.
Magical thinking.
