Someone was trying to sell me book marketing services. I asked for examples of their work. All AI. I tried to explain that @notapipe.bsky.social doesn't support AI. The responses were nonsensical. Then I realized I was trying to explain why we don't use AI to someone using AI to write their replies!

I have spent multiple weeks working on this story. We are not dropping it. I hope you will give this a read.

From (1) you get the obsession with biohacking and all the other extremely weird cheat-death stuff. From (2) you get the draw of AI girlfriends, Gemini conversations, and so forth. So for people obsessed with tech because it gives you control over your world, those things naturally appeal.

When people become obsessed with controlling their environment and world, I see them run into two big problems. (1) You can't not die, and (2) you can't make people like you. (You can make them pretend to like you because you have something they want; not the same thing.)
