Now that Alberta's Bill 2 has passed, it operates notwithstanding to Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms for sections 2 and 7 through 15, and the entirety of the Alberta Bill of Rights and the Alberta Human Rights Act.

Here's what it affects vis-à-vis the Charter (a thread):

It will be interesting to see how overriding charter rights, forcing a rejected labour deal on workers, and threatening substantial fines will impact Alberta's plan to add and recruit 3,000 new teachers over the next 3 years.

Let's be clear about what happened today.

Premier Smith introduced a bill to strip Albertans of Charter rights,

denied MLAs the opportunity to debate it and the courts the ability to scrutinize it,

and did all of this from her seat on a jet to Saudi Arabia.

Alberta taxpayers have paid out $240 million this year to settle lawsuits with coal companies because of our incompetent UPC.
No wonder there’s no money for public healthcare and public education.

🛩️ 🇸🇦🇦🇪 Premier Danielle Smith is jetting off to Saudi Arabia and Dubai just as her UCP government is expected to invoke the constitutional sledgehammer known as the Notwithstanding Clause in its legislation to force striking teachers back to work.
