It’s relatively little things like this that make the difference between a real democracy, based on non-partisan principles of fairness and legitimacy, and a faux one that’s meant to monopolize and concentrate political power under the guise of fairness.

Example #1,486,544 of why the US is not a functional democracy. Its electoral districts are controlled by elected officials, who “gerrymander” them to maintain power.

By contrast, Elections Canada and Elections BC are NON-PARTISAN agencies that define electoral areas based on objective criteria.

It feels like people are seeing other beaches due to the drama at Banfield.

Local governments have authority over local roads, but everything is dictated by MVA and road safety standards.

For instance, we’ve lowered speed limits and removed many slip lanes.

But MVA is badly overdue for an overhaul.

Meanwhile, Helsinki, a much larger city, made it a full year without a road fatality. Why? Because they take road safety more seriously than anywhere in N. America.
