Rewatching The Conjuring (2013) scene where Ed yells out the witch/demon thing’s name (found it in historical records) to kill it.

Demons really got screwed over by print culture, I guess.

Please, this guy called “A Princess of Mars” a CLASSIC novel and put it next to Monmouth’s “History of the Kings of Britain” 🤣 I get that he’s saying these are “classics of the fantasy genre” but it’s very telling of where derives his info about the Middle Ages and how he stratifies that info.

Going to be at Kalamazoo for the medieval conference next week! If you’re there too, come to the Ecocriticisms I: Animals session to see me talk about Sir Gowther, dogs, and video game theory! Let’s get beers if you don’t hate it (or even if you do hate it, as long as you’re nice about it lol)

Rome has some of the most incredible and artistically innovative fountains. The Trevi fountain is sure to be crammed with tourists this time of year, but do not to miss hidden gems like this: Saccus Neptuni

Realizing I’m from an era where the “posers” were all wannabe hipsters fighting over who knew Bon Iver in his Volcano Choir iteration instead of something cooler is a real punch to the ego . . .

IPAs but only bc dudes who DONT like IPAs talk about them in the same way ppl who think crystals are a joke talk about that, but those who DO “like” them have to convince themselves of it in the same way crystal girlies have to tell themselves the rocks work. It’s magical thinking + hipster vibes

Just learned that an acquaintance got denied a passport renewal bc he’s trans—something I’ve already seen ppl report happening to them on TikTok—I’m talking KEPT & sent in a BLACK HOLE. Not just denied gender marker, but effectively REVOKED. I’ve seen others online report the same . . . Taken! KEPT!

It’s wild that there are animals out there—dogs, donkeys, squirrels—that are more famous and culturally relevant than 99% of us will EVER be.

This is the future #posthumanists want.

Has anyone played Mount & Blade ( #Bannerlord or #Warband ) either for leisure or for pedagogical reasons? If so, what are your thoughts on the game as a medievalism/historical fiction

Amazon one-star review saying “I looked like a polygamist” in reference to a cotton, puff-sleeve shirt.

The best Amazon review I’ve seen in a while, which stinks because the shirt was actually 100% cotton and natural fibers are hard to come by on sites like that.

Okinawan Journal of Island Studies (OJIS) Volume 5 | 琉球大学 島嶼地域科学研究所(RIIS)

Fellow islanders, especially academics:

The Okinawan Journal of Island Studies just put out their 5th volume!

It has cool articles like “Water Heals and Grows Indigeneity” by Risako Sakai.

(This site is mostly in Japanese, but the articles are in English.)
