42% of private school pupils get extra time in exams?!
That's astonishing if true.

Checks for listening using MWBs prior to more thorough, written checks for understanding. Useful for increasing student accountability during explanations, and obtaining higher success rate during understanding checks and practice.

Quiet Hayden is kicking off again. With a clockwork regularity he’s decided he’s not going to do his work and instead is shouting across the room to a boy he likes to shout at when he doesn&#…

It was my turn at work to do Thought For The Day and normally I think of my own but today I just read out every word of this banger of a blog from Tom Starkey

Agree with this. We need to help teachers make better decisions not make the decisions for them. This isn't just being nice. Prescription usually doesn't work beyond basic agreed stuff around procedural routines. Even these will be subverted if people don't understand the reasons.

Hard disagree with this. I get its sentiment and on a surface level it makes sense, but I feel there are three things that it ignores which are important things in most schools and especially those working in challenging areas. I will try to explain 1/10

The fall of Eng Lit What is the cause, is it a problem - and if so, what can we do about it?

Or, given students will leave university with 50k of debt, they are simply looking to maximise returns on investment. Sadly, an English lit degree isn’t the way to do that. This is good: substack.nomoremarking.com/p/the-fall-o...

That the compulsory English curriculum should include at least one nineteenth century novel from anywhere, a modern English novel and a work of Shakespeare was a good change *and* most schools don't have good enough behaviour policies to teach Of Mice & Men and not have it spill into the playground.

There are plenty of brilliant schools in this list, but given that it seems to base its evaluations heavily on exam outcomes, (which depends enormously on the school’s intake), it’s absurd to rank them like this. Especially the day after P8 scores!

It's so typical of Stokes' captaincy that he declared with the best part of three days left when he only needed one more run for a 50.
