You don't even need to have a character transition to be trans.

You don't need them to act or look a particular way. You just need to nail the cultural and psychological aspects of what it means to be trans.

It's really not that high of a bar.

Heck, you can even do an alien species that has no sexual characteristics and have a group of members of that species who want to adopt human gender norms and appearances.

That's still trans. Being trans in fictional settings is about transcending and crossing gender boundaries.

When I see books marketed on "this character is trans" and they can't even do the bare minimum of having a character show they have gender dysphoria or gender euphoria... I get very upset.

Even if it's like a few lines of "oh I used to really hate my body years ago before I drank the magic potion"

To add context. I'm writing in a project about a trans woman character who lives in a fantasy magical setting.

The key markers that make her trans are her discomfort with her body, that she grew up different, and she transitioned using magic.

These are just the BARE minimum IMHO

What makes someone trans is the culture experience and history. If they have that in a fictional realm, it still counts as trans IMHO.
