Very pleased to lead a workshop on the 1700 Anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and inter faith relations for the @quaker.org.uk yesterday.

In a very real sense Francis became the very focus of unity for the Christian world that the Bishop of Rome always endeavors to be. I hope the Christian world will continue his prophetic ministry with the same boldness and humility. This would be a real witness to visible unity.

And he went far and beyond what many other faith leaders have done in speaking out on behalf of refugees, the poor and all marginalized groups. And he emboldened us to do the same. All against a rising tide of narrow, chauvinistic, macho nationalism that seeks to divide, to hate and exclude.

Watching the funeral of Pope Francis was an emotional affair. Francis more than any other Pope in history stood for the strong theological conviction that all people are equal in the eyes of God and therefore have a right to be treated with dignity.
